Cologne, Rhineland’s capital is famous for its magnificent gothic cathedral which is one of the largest churches in the world. It is also a thriving media and commercial centre. The football stadium at Leverkusen, north of Cologne, is the home of Bayer Leverkusen FC which offers guided tours of the stadium and grounds. The nearby Bayer Pharmaceuticals Visitor Centre, BayKomm, offers a multimedia experience which provides a fascinating insight into today’s research for tomorrow’s world.
Bonn is approximately 20km south of Cologne on the river Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990 and the official seat of government until 1999. It is an important national and international venue for conventions and conferences, many of which are directly related to the work of the United Nations.
Bonn was the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven. The Museum at Beethoven’s House, where he spent the first three years of his life. contains the largest collection of Beethoven’s works and memorabilia in the world. The Haus der Geschichte Museum offers a stimulating insight into Post-War Germany history using modern technology.
