So…what is there to do on your next school trip to Santander?
Well, Santander is a must visit city in Cantabria; it is famous for its character as well as its beautiful setting on the seafront. There are many beautiful beaches and cultural activities to get your school trip to Santander off on a good footing. Let’s see the top 10 attractions that you cannot miss!
1. Walk to the lighthouse.
On this walk your school group will enjoy of one of the most beautiful views available in Santander.
Your coach will drop you off in the Parque de Mataleñas direction. Take your group into the park and take the first path on the right hand side. You will walk in the direction of the coastline to ‘Playa de Molinucos’. At the exit of the park on the way to the coast you will see a beautiful garden (well worth a look around). Continue along the path in front of Playa de Molinucos and turn left, walk along several small and beautiful beaches. You will eventually arrive at Cabo Menor (next to the Golf course) and get your first glimpse of the lighthouse at Cabo Mayor. Along the way you will find information boards with information about the panoramic views, islands and beaches in the distance. . Be careful of the edges of the rocky outcrops on your walk though! Your coach can pick you up at Cabo Menor.

2. Peninsula Magdalenas
This is an excellent place to spend time when in Santander
At the entrance to the peninsula on the right hand side there is the famous Playa de Los Bikinis next to a children’s garden (and the Spanish Cavalry students accommodation). There is the zoo to visit with penguins and seals and many other animals. Behind the zoo there is also a small open air museum with shops and boats to view, there is plenty of information about historical figures and sailors that sailed out of Santander. At the top of the peninsula is the beautiful Parque de la Magdalena. If you walk through the park in direction of the northern most point of the peninsula you will find the Royal Palace . This Palace is sometimes opened for public so if you are lucky you will be able to take your group inside!
3. Beautiful Beaches
•Playa de los Peligros (Dangers beach): This beach has over 200 meters of beautiful sand alongside Playa de La Magdalena and Playa de Los Bikinis, visitors have 1500 meters of beautiful coastline at their disposal. There are quiet waters and a soft breeze which will let you have a wonderful beach experience. Don’t be put off by the name it refers to the sailing conditions (hence the lighthouse).
•Playa El Camello (Camel Beach): Every child in Santander has their first beach experience here! The beach is small and the water is calm, a good spot for a safe beach experience.
•Playa de La Concha. A beautiful beach located in front of the Casino.
• Primera playa El Sardinero: This beach offers excellent access facilities: if you have mobility restrictions you can access it by elevator. The beach also has an ISO 1400 certification which means that its quality is outstanding.
• Segunda playa El Sardinero: The biggest beach in the city with several parks.
4. Museums
The best one is the Museum of Fine Arts, located in the city centre. You can also visit the Palacio de Festivales where many festivals, concerts and musicals are held throughout the year.
5. Old centre and shopping area
The shopping area located between the City Hall, Avd. Calvo sotello, Guevarra and Plaza Antonio Pombo. It is not big so is not overwhelming but there are some excellent shops! Plenty on offer for the shopping element of your tour!
6. Cathedral
Simply put, your group has to visit the ‘Catedral del Cristo’. The only thing better than its stunning exterior is the wonderful interior.
7. Boat trips
From the beginning of June until the end of September you can take a boat from El Embarcadero. The trip will take you out of the Santander bay and will show you the beautiful coast and Cantabrian Sea.
8. Language Lessons and Flamenco Lessons

If you have a full coach you can split the group in two and rotate through Flamenco lesson and a Spanish lesson. You can even stream your students and the lessons will cater to the groups abilities accordingly.
9. Planetarium
It is difficult to get in to but the Santander Planetarium is a free visit in the city’s university planetarium. A great experience.
10. Spanish Market
The Mercado de la Esperanza is a must see stop on your school trip to Santander, full of the usual market fare and flourishing in Spanish culture.
